Owner Short Biography:
Dominick LaCombe
President, American Custom Yachts
With over 25 years of yacht building experience and 35 years of blue water fishing under his belt, ACY President Dominick LaCombe has earned a reputation for building boats that are ahead of their time. LaCombe began his career in southern New Jersey as sportfishing captain. Daily 100-mile canyon runs gave LaCombe a unique insight into the needs for stronger, lighter boats with a more efficient hull design. This hands-on experience proved invaluable when LaCombe entered the boat building business. In 1989, LaCombe went on to build the world’s fastest diesel-powered luxury sportfisherman at the time – an 80-footer, achieving top speeds in excess of 48 knots (54.6 mph). In 1991, the shipbuilding company Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) of Galliano, Louisiana was looking for the right boat builder to help them break into the custom sportfishing market. The timing was perfect. ECO and LaCombe created American Custom Yachts (ACY) in Stuart, Florida and proceeded to design and build a lineage of famous sportfishing yachts ranging from 58- to 72-feet, including the world-record setting FREEDOM and the QUE MAS, winner of the 2008 Bermuda Triple Crown Championship. Today, LaCombe overseas ACY’s 63-acre yacht construction and marine service facility in Stuart, as well as a waterfront tower and electronics facility in Beaufort, North Carolina.
